The esteemed business club had been re-built in a new location just ten years before and the millwork already needed a complete over-haul. With the intention to save what they could from the old work we had to incorporate existing panels that were re-finished on site with our new work. Wall and ceiling panels, full height doors, curved banister curbs and paneling, a wine bar and restaurant were all built and installed over four months in a multi-phased project where the club Members, while aware of the work, were rarely inconvenienced.

The original work was clear lacquered cherry, but the new design required a much darker finish. Cherry tends to get quite mottled or blotchy when stained so Artek’s skilled finishers had to layer multiple coats of tint to achieve an even effect without washing out the grain. Sourcing the cherry veneer in twelve foot lengths was also a challenge as the trees are notorious for being short and small, and the project required both tall and long runs of veneer.
