Designer: SRG Partnership Inc
General Contractor: Lease Crutcher Lewis

This project was the new home for the City of Bellevue council chambers and offices. The materials to be used for this project had to meet LEED and FSC requirements. The veneers and solids chosen by the designer were Eastern White Maple and locally harvested vertical grain Douglas fir.

The challenges associated with this project were the radius maple acoustic panels required for the council chambers. Due to the design and radius of the panels the panels had to incorporate the radius doors at the entrance. Artek’s design team thought it best to produce them in house. The veneer matching and the location of the machining on the CNC equipment could then be sized to the layout of the room. The other challenge was the lateral grill in the public gallery. This was 160 feet in length with solid Douglas fir slats running the full length. Artek sourced material of the same grain and color and of suitable lengths so when they were installed it looked like one continues piece. The grill could also be viewed from a public landing at the end of the gallery so the straightness of the material was absolutely critical.
